Project Description

The spirit of compassion travelled across some of the most remote and challenging terrains of Nepal as the Rotary Club of Himalayan Golfers (RCHG), in collaboration with the Canadian SCAW Team, successfully completed the distribution of 4,000 bed kits to needy students in the remote regions of Baglung and the Chepang settlements of Gorkha district. Conducted from 4th May to 15th May 2026, this initiative stood as one of the club’s flagship humanitarian projects, with an investment exceeding NPR 1 crore 60 lakhs. What appeared as a simple act of providing bed kits was, in reality, a journey of determination, endurance, and unwavering commitment to reaching communities often forgotten by development and support systems. Nishikhola Municipality, located in the western part of Baglung district bordering Rukum, remains one of Nepal’s most geographically isolated regions. The journey itself demanded resilience — nearly 6 to 7 hours of driving from Pokhara through rough and bumpy roads, followed by several hours of walking to reach the actual distribution sites. Yet, the hardship faced by the team was mirrored equally by the beneficiaries themselves. Many students and families walked for 4 to 5 hours just to receive the kits, carrying them back across the same difficult distance and terrain. Behind every distributed bed kit was an enormous logistical effort. A total of 22 long-body containers were mobilized to transport supplies through narrow and rugged roads as part of the supply chain operation. The lack of secure and appropriate storage spaces created additional challenges, requiring careful coordination and planning well in advance. The mission carried not only physical challenges but emotional and social ones as well. The distribution areas were previously Maoist-affected regions where a lack of cooperation and understanding initially posed difficulties. Locals shared that this was perhaps the first time such meaningful support had reached their communities, making the initiative not just a distribution drive, but a moment of trust-building and hope. Equally moving was the support extended to the children of the Chepang community in Gorkha district, across the other side of Kurintar. Recognized as one of Nepal’s most backward and marginalized communities, the smiles and gratitude of the students reflected the true essence of service above self. This project was not merely about delivering bed kits. It was about reaching hearts hidden deep within Nepal’s hills, reminding children and families that they are seen, valued, and cared for. Through every difficult road, every long walk, and every challenge overcome, the initiative became a powerful example of humanity, partnership, and the impact of collective compassion.
