Project Description

On 6 October 2026, the Rotary Club of Patan Durbar Square celebrated World Cerebral Palsy Day through two special programs in Kathmandu Valley and Lalitpur. The first program was organized in Basantapur by the Self-Help Group for Cerebral Palsy (SGCP), with District Governor Rtn. Vishnu Bahadur Karkee as Chief Guest, accompanied by the Rotary District Team, Rotary clubs, and representatives from more than 35 disability-related organizations. The District Cerebral Palsy and Down Syndrome Committee, RID 3292, and Rotary Club of Kathmandu Mid-Town also actively participated. Rtn. Dr. Pragya Karmacharya Rajbhandari played a major role in coordinating between Rotary and SGCP to ensure the program's success.
A major highlight was the awareness rally, which brought together more than 350 participants, including children with CP, families, Rotary members, professionals, staff, and community supporters. The rally promoted awareness, inclusion, dignity, accessibility, and equal opportunities for people with disabilities.
Five children with Cerebral Palsy who successfully completed their SEE from mainstream schools were recognized and honored by District Governor Vishnu Bahadur Karkee, celebrating their achievements and emphasizing the importance of inclusive education.
A second celebration was organized at Patan Durbar Square in collaboration with the Cerebral Palsy and Neurological Disorder Welfare Society. Thirty children with CP from the day-care center, along with staff and caregivers, participated.
Both celebrations strengthened community awareness and reaffirmed Rotary’s commitment to the inclusion, education, rehabilitation, and empowerment of people with Cerebral Palsy.
